Why does this white crust (probably salt) creep out my aquariums?

I have 2 freshwater aquariums, one over a year old and and one set-up since 06. Every now and then, I find this white crust on the dry exterior of the creses of my tanks, I believe it’s just salt (I add a bit of salt to my water). Why does it show up outside (I know something about evaporation)? I’m really not concerned about it just curious?

It is salt. Not sure how it gets up and out though.

It sounds as if you have what is often referred to as lime buildup on the glass. This occurs when the water has lots of minerals in it. As water evaporates, it leaves behind the minerals, which adhere to the glass.

It’s just minerals building up, just wipe it off with water and a washcloth. If that doesn’t do the trick, try using vingar. Just don’t get ANY in the water.
