For my birthday at the end of may I want to ask for a pet. I already have a cat and my parents’ don’t think anoher is a good idea so I am thinking a small animal. I need it to be friendly and engaging to me, not like a fish, but not too smelly or messy because I would like to keep its habitat in my room. If not I could put it in the upstairs of my garage. My dad isn’t too fond of animals around the house so it is important that it will not ruin the furniture or make a mess on the floor when out of its cage. What small animal do you think is right for me? And also, what supplies will I need to care for it?
Also if you could tell me the general cost of the animal thatwould be extremely helpful. We would probably be purchasing the animal from Petco or Petsmart.

I think a hamster is the best. It only costs $9.99 – $12.99 at Pet Smart. A hamster starter kit includes a cage, bedding, food bowl, water bottle, exercise wheel, and maybe food, too. This would cost $25 – $40, depending on how nice you want your cage to look. You might want to buy a silent wheel at Pet Smart so that your hamster can play with it at night, and it won’t bother you while you sleep. You might also want to buy some treats or chewing toys which aren’t very expensive and you can also buy this at Pet Smart. I have a hamster, and I bought everything for it from Pet Smart. It should have everything you need for you hamster.
guinea pigs are nice small pets, and in my opinion more cuddly and easier to hold clean up after than bunnys. Cage,food,woodshaving bedding, water bottle
Hamsters are probably a good pet for you. They have balls to roll around in so they can’t chew the furniture (or get attacked by the cat
, don’t smell, and are easy to take care of. They’re adorable and really fun to play with. 
Depending on what quality the food and cage are, I’d say it costs about $100 – $150 for the hamster, food, cage, water bottle, water, litter, toys, etc.

I used to have a guinea pig, but he passed away about 2 months ago. I totally suggest them because they are friendly & they act like little puppies. Good luck & happy birthdayyy!

They are cool… and friendly. You should name it Fred the Octopus.
I would not suggest a guinea pig. Simply because they will pee and poop everywhere when they are out AND they can NOT be put into those balls to roll around in because it can really hurt there back!
If you can get multiple animals I suggest either mice, rats(If your dad will let you!) or gerbils.

If you can only gt one animal, your are limited on small animals. When i say limited I mean one. Hamsters. These guys are amazingly cute and very tame IF socialized correctly.

Remember, every animal is lifetime commitment(their life time) and not something you can get bored of and barely touch any more.

FERRETS!!!!!!!! they are really nice and loving so all you need to do is go to a local petco. and another as soon as the ferret gets a little smelly they LOVE water and taking baths so that’s good!!!!!!!!!! and also all you need to do is ask the manager and they will tell what food your ferret needs. o and they LOVE toys!!!!! so be sure to get a lot!!! the toys that they like have pics. of ferrets on the label and they love big comfy beds for them to sleep in!

Guinea pigs are nice small… and very inexpensive! I got 1 from the SPCA for $10!
Small Turtles is also a good idea… but they are more expensive, and kind of smelly…
They are around $50 a piece… and thats not including the tank and the food.
Plus the tanks are hard to clean.
My choice would be a guienea pig!
