I need to buy some meds and supplies for my sick goldfish(3 goldfish) at petsmart. Heres my list:
nitrite kit- 6.49
ammonia kit-5.49
antibiotics-5.49
amquel + 5.99
novaqua+-4.99
omega one goldfish flakes-6.99
Total: .44 w/o tax
The thing is my parents don't want to pay this much. They say stuff like, " Oh my gosh! do you know how much we could buy for ? We could buy you a whole bunch of fish if they die."
They don't get how much i care about fish and how fun it is to take care of them (i am always the one cleaning, feeding etc. the fish).
so im just trying to persuade them. Thanx in adavance!
Also, i cant get rid of the fish flakes. my fish i running out of food and I wont go to the pet store in like another 2 months.
okay then lemee explain why i need these items then for justin time
nitrite kit- test nitrites so they don't get nitrite burn or other infection caused by it. the nitrite level should be 0
ammonia kit- ammonia is one of the number one killers of fish. They cause ammonia burn, and soon suffocation of unbearable water qualities. Ammonia level needs to be 0.
antibiotics- both goldfish have hemorrhagic septicemia. Bacterial infection that can lead to fin rot, scale loss and eventual death
amquel + if i need to lower my nitrate, nitrite and ammonia levels instead of waiting and letting my fish suffer
novaqua- rebuilding slime coat which acts as immunity towards disease, electrolytes too
omega one goldfish flakes- conatins omega 3 and omega 6 which are important for goldfish. higher fiber content and less protein is also important for a goldfishes' well being
Those things may be of some use, but you must have some underlying water quality issues if your fish are in that condition to start with.
Things you NEED are water conditioner and food. The others are usefull, but probably not needed.
Review your tank size compared to the filter, are 3 goldfish too much for the size tank and filter you have? Is the tank too small?
Water changes, are you changing the water frequently enough? In spite of what people say you CAN do water changes every day, and up to 50% or more, safely. As long as the new water is similar parameters to the old tank water, then the fish wont get stressed or shocked. And if you change the water frequently, the 2 waters will be similar.
The ammonia test kits will tell you if there is a problem, but you still need to fix it. Either fixing the filter problem or just changing more water. So do that anyway. The amquel will make ammonia less toxic, but it doesn't fix your underlying water problem.
Get the food and water conditioner ($10?), review your tank setup and do more water changes to improve the water quality. If you need all those chemicals to keep goldfish alive, something is wrong with you setup.
Good luck

your lucky to get stuff that cheep my total 10gal tank costed me $180 not including the fish! my 45gal tank $500
tell them if you dont spen the $40 on new supplys then your spending $40 on the new fish
Youll probably need the amonnia, nitrate kit, and the flakes.
Goldfish are very easy to take care of not to much maintanence.
your parents sound like they might be right, if your running out of food for your fish why would you go and spend $40 on test kits and meds, why do you have three sick fish, that sounds like you are having other issues with your tank, how is it you know what meds to give a sick goldfish? no offence but it doesn't sound lie you know what your doing…..
…good luck
try behaving really well and save up to 20 bucks then ask and say you will help pay.hope this works
