My Quaker Parrot is really mean how can I try to make her calm down?

My daughter got a quaker parrot from her old baby sitter and it is really mean. She might seem sweel by the things she says like give mama sugars and who your baby, but she bites and then hobbles back into her cage laughing. any help on how to tame this bird?

lol- oh Quakers are great fun, arent they? And she is obviously intelligent enough to know exactly what she is doing- sucking up for a kiss and then biting- *shakes head* they amaze me sometimes.
Doesnt sound like shes scared of you, which is a good start.
There are a tonne of great books out there on parrot behaviour and training- really helped me out when I adopted my neglected quaker- though he didnt have that problem- he was much more nervous and I had to work more on building trust with him.
Quakers are very cage territorial, so its good if you can do some training away from her cage. They will also tend to bond to one person- your Quaker is clearly still bonded to its old owner, so one of you will have to work extra hard with her so that she starts to bond to you instead.
Negative reinforcement doesnt work with birds. They are prey animals, and if you try to punish her she will not take it well.
You are better off trying to distract her from biting- and there are some simple techniques to this- for instance if she is perching on you or you are holding her perch, and she goes to bite, you can quickly lower the perch- this should startle her enough to stop biting and try to upright herself instead.
You can also try offering her treats so that she knows she will be rewarded if she is a good girl.
Investing in some books on Quakers, and on parrot behaviour and training- or even borrowing out some from your library- will be a great start.

First, get your parrot’s wings trimmed. Talk to him gently. Always move slowly so you don’t scare him. You need to build his trust. Taming him to step up and praising him are the keys to training him.
Also, be patient but persistent.

After you try everything that people tell you to.Do everything they tell you and find it dosnt work.In fact you will have some tell you not to do what im going to tell you.But you will find this is the only thing that will work with a bitting parrot.A Quaker rehabber told me this when i was at the end of road with mine. these same people will mist there bird and it is ok .You have got to get a spray bottle and spray him everytime he bits.It took three days for mine I have a bird that everyone wants now a real lover. and a real good talker .He didnt talk when i got him he was five years old he says over 100.0 words now. Like i said do everything people tell you then when it dosnt work do this. I work with parrots everyday.

Kidding. Feed her what she likes, I’d guess.
Dont react or squeal when she bites, they think its kinda funny. Dont show fear, they take advantage of it. If your daughter is young she probably wont be able to cope with the re-training this bird needs. Get yourself some good books- Parrotlapaedia is good. Maybe consider rehoming it, most people that are used to parrots have encountered this_ I have with my conures.
