I’m 13 and right now my family has a dog and a cat, and my brother owns a beta fish. I am a huge animal lover but my mom HATES animals (even the dog. She says the only reason we still have him is because she knows I would get mad at her for getting rid of him).
I have owned a hamster when I was in 3rd grade and it died 2 years later. Of course, I was young and didn’t really know what I was doing so my mom ended up cleaning the cage and buying the supplies. When it died, she said she would never let me own another pet & got rid of all of the hamster’s stuff.
In October/November, I bought 3 hermit crabs (one died in January) and I had to get rid of them because we are moving to Florida this summer. I still have the 10 gallon tank because my mom said that maybe I can get some freshwater fish after we move but I don’t want any fish (I’ve owned beta fish ever since I was 7 and I find them a bit boring).
I asked my mom if I can have guinea pigs because I read over 10 books & a lot of internet articles on how to take care of them. (I like to reasearch before I ever own a pet). She said she doesn’t want anymore animals and my dad said no. But then she said that after we settle in our new house in Florida then MAYBE we could look into a pet but she doesn’t guarantee anything.
My mom hates reptiles/amphibians but my dad probably wouldn’t mind them. What kind of pets do you think I could have if my mom lets me buy them myself?
OMG!! did u say Guinea pig?!?!? I used to have a Guinea pig named Smudge. he was the cutest little thing. If u r gonna get a Guinea pig they love sorta big cages, Nutra gold Guinea pig food, snacks toys and lots of love. I agree with you fish r boring. Wow ur parents r kinda strict. like mine. im looking for a dog that doesnt shed. o well ill look l8r. i have some suggestions.

I think you should try out a new pet, maybe another dog, as your mom doesnt seem to mind the dog as much as the other animals. I myself have two mini weenie dogs! And they are great they are small, and compact and have as much love as a bigger dog, and they are not as fidgety as other small dogs like chihuahua’s or as hyper as a jack russel ! I have two small babies and they are a perfect fit for my small little family! Hope this helps!
Guniea pigs or a rabbit:) Or if you want something abit more exotic and to live in your tank then go for an axolotl. I have one and they are really easy to look after and are very intresting creatures to watch. I think your mum would be facisnated by it as mine wasnt too keen but now she adores him.
