If it’s a puppy get a bag of Purina food or recommended puppy chow by your puppy’s vet. A Kong or rubberized chew toys are good-my dog chews up plastic and fuzzy toys, but Kong’s are almost unbreakable. water and food dish. A comfortable bed. A collar, with a name tag-just in case your puppy gets lost. You’ll also need a thick leash to attach to it’s collar. If you don’t have a fenced-in yard, you’ll need to take it outside with you on a leash. And of course, lost of love! Remember to get you puppy’s shots too! Good Luck!
Puppy food, toys, collar and leash, a dog bed and lots of love.
Of course I’ll help.
-Food and Water
-Food and Water Bowl
-Leash
-Collar
-ID Tag (available at PetCo)
-Dog Food
-Toys (if a puppy get teething toys too)
-Breath Freshener or Toothbrush
-Dog Toothpaste
-Bed
-Newspapers or Pads for training
Hope this helps!
as a starter pack you will need
>>flat buckle collar or harness (no prong or chole chains please)
>>regular 4 or 6 foot leash (no flexi/retractable …teaches puppy/dog to pull and to walk away from you..neither good for manners.)
>>High quality dog food…look for meat ingredients as the primary ones..avoid grain fillers
>>Food/water dishes
>>Crate (size appropriate)
>>A few "chew" toys…Kong #1 pick, sterilized bone (no rawhide)
>>A few "play" toys…should be monitored when using
>>A few types of healthy treats for a job well done
>>For a bed you can use old towels or blankets to start.
>>potty training supplies..puppy pads and pet stain and odor solution (many household cleaners have ingredients that resemble urine to a puppy nose and may encourage accidents in the same location)
If you are getting a puppy check out a local Petsmart for reward based puppy classes…potty training is covered too. Classes for older dogs are also available. Also the grooming salon offers a special for puppies under 5 months..bath,face trim (for the fuzzy faced breeds), nail trim, cologne, and bandana all for the low price of $15
There are some great lists above, but…
Probably equally as important is the list of things you need to do to keep your dog from making herself sick or possibly ruining something that’s valuable to you.
Until you get it start trying to be strict about closing closets and bathroom doors, train yourself to remember to pick up shoes and close up rooms you aren’t using. Move the trash somewhere the dog can’t get it. etc.
