i haven’t introduced it to my parrot but if it does try to attack it, how can i train it to leave it? the parrot’s cage can easily be knocked over by the dog. i don’t want to get rid of my parrot or this dog.

Show the dog the parrot is more dominant than him. If he does go after the parrot, put the dog on his side, and then WHILE the dog remains on his side, bring the parrot back to the dog. So as not to leave the dogs last experience with the parrot as a negative one, if the dog continues to growl, tap his side with an open hand [fingers flexed in 'claw' like form] this will simulate an alpha dogs bite. The dog needs to understand that he is lower on the family totem pole that the parrot, and has to respect the parrot.
Teach you dog the "leave it" command.
I have heard of Field Champion labs trained to "leave" a pet parrot alone…yet would go thru hell and high water to retrieve a bird. It can be done. It takes training. Seek help from a professional trainer. The money you spend will be worth it.
