I have an African Grey parrot and I made a nesting box for it. and when ever I put it in his cage he is afraid of it and does not go near it. How can I get to show him that it is not a threat to him and so he is not afraid of it.

Your question sounds as if you only have one parrot. If so, then get rid of the box. There is no need for it. Greys do not sleep in boxes or nests of any kind. They are also known for being very suspicious of most new things. Even if you had two that you know for sure are opposite sex, you cannot force them, (or any other type of bird) to use a nest or box if they don’t want to. Greys can find enough things to keep them stressed out anyway. You are just making his life more miserable by keeping something near that he considers scary. I’d urge you to get rid of it right away.
Is it a breeding pair. If not there is no use to use a nesting box. Even if it is in he will not use it. They like to sleep on perches.
the nest box, does it open from the top or side or the back? is what i do for my parakeets is i take all the perchs out and put the nest box in the cage and open it up (it opens from the top) and i put seed in it and with out their perches they have to sit on the nest box, she hasnt gone in it yet but i see her looking down at the seed so that might work
Um, David is wrong. You should NEVER force a bird into a nest box like that…
He should get used to it, try putting millet spray around the entrance, and keep it open and have a light around it so he can see inside of it. He should get used to it. But, having a nesting box like that usually makes birds territorial…
Same way you teach a bird of anything, slow and easy. Take him out his cage pet him normally get him nice and calm.
Then slowly just put a sunflower seed(or a treat he likes) in front of him on a table making him have to walk to get it(works better if hes a little hungry before hand). Then do this again but this time make a trail leading to the nesting box. Not 2 much at once though, if he even starts to walk towards it one day maybe that’s enough. Slowly make him have to walk into the box to get his seeds. Maybe only put his food there later on.
Key thou don’t just put his food only in there from start or it mite starve itself.
