am i a bad pet owner for not having a crate at home?

i have had both my dogs for 3months and never had a crate. they are trained to not go in the house, they sleep all night, and they obey commands very well. my dogs are great with my kids and they have good behavior. both dogs have a bed to sleep in at night.

am i a bad owner because i dont own a crate?

oh yeah, they are both pits.

I think that crate training makes lots of things easier but if you handle things without it then that’s fine.

of course not, feel that you are a caring owner and take great care of your dogs and I hope they are good companions to you too!

    No.

A crate is a tool. Some owners/dogs don’t need that particular tool. Some people, especially inexperienced dog owners with young puppies, benefit from crate training.

No not at all. Their are tons of dog owners who don’t have crates

But I would find a way to expose them to a crate so they can have a positive experience with it. There may come a time, emergency, vet visit, groomers etc. when your dogs have to be crated. Not only can the situation be stressful for them, but having to be crated for the first time will be as well. If they’ve already been exposed to crating in a positive way it can make things alot easier on them.

Personally? I’d rather NOT have a crate. I feel bad for putting them in there all day! If they behave well without one, why bother?

I think that’s a great thing. I believe that’s a mark of good pet ownership, not bad. A crate can make things a lot easier, but it’s not a must. Don’t beat yourself up over it.
