Yesterday, we went to petsmart to look at supplies. My mom had gone with me before, so i was going to show dad the stuff. So, I’m going to pay for everything with my own money, right? Well my parents want to control EVERYTHING I BUY! They act as if they’ve been doing research for these long months. They have no idea! They were saying "well its not that big" and then they’d tell me to get this tiny cage? I said it’s not big enough. They think i just want to spend money. That night, they showed me this cage on craiglist. It had a stand, a second level, and all that, but it was too small, and the second level was hazardous. I explained that to them, and they said, "well, it’s 120 buck at petsmart, and only 75 on here. They don’t seem to understand that i know what i’m doing, and that it’s my money. We went to pet extreme today, and my mom was doing the same thing all over. My dad said, "How about you get a fish instead". I don’t have the guts to say anything (it’s mainly my mom frustrating me) and my mom’s just going to get mad and find a way of getting out of the blame. But i’m about ready to burst! They haven’t done any research, and when i explain why the item they showed me won’t work, they just seem to ignore me and go off doing somemthing else. They’ll do anything to try to talk me out of this guinea pig thing. I knoww that getting a pet shouldn’t be this frustrating. I need help!
Thanks
They know i don’t want a hamster. I’d be to scared of that thing to bite me! I’ve thought about hamsters before. No thanks.

I would like to get a new puppy that is a mix of a toy fox terrier and a jack russel. Does anyone have any good websites to visit about taking care of a dog? I never had a dog in my life, so I need to know how much food to feed it, wet of dry food, if it needs a sweter in the winter, how to wash it saftly, ect. ect. Good answers please! Thanks !

How can I convince my parents to let me have rats?

I need some advice.

For the past 5 months or so, I’ve wanted rats. I’ve done tons of research, and I believe the experience would be valuable and I’d love to broaden my pet-owning spectrum, for in the past I’ve had a dog, some hamsters, and we recently acquired a cat. I’ve also done quite a bit of pet-sitting in the past, rats included. However, my parents really don’t want me getting rats for myself. Aside from just not liking them, I’m apparently not responsible enough.

I have a job at a reputable pet store with several vet tech students. I’m a good student myself (not all A’s, mind, but teachers like me and I try very hard in school!), and participate in several extracurricular activities. I already own a fish, and he’s quite happy. However, despite my current workload, I still have more than enough time, space, experience, and money for two or three rats.

In my opinion, my parents are just annoyed that I don’t do my laundry and chores as often as they like me to, and my room isn’t spotless (quite the contrary!). However, I know that with rats, I’ll /have/ to keep my room clean if I want to let them play on my floor, and what with hammocks and level linings and such, I’ll have to do laundry /at least/ every other week. Besides, the cage will be in my room, anyway, where it won’t bother them. I have more than enough space for a large cage in my room, and I want female rats, who are much smaller and aren’t as likely to scent-mark as males, and don’t get greasy. Rats in general are very clean animals (it’s their urine that smells!) and they can be litter trained.

I’ve compiled a whole list of supplies I need, where I can get them, how much they’ll cost (since I plan to pay for everything myself) where they’ll go, and what I’ll do to care for them. I’ve only brought the matter up twice with my parents, but they’re still adamantly against it, though next time I plan to include the pros and cons of rats, ’cause they didn’t want to hear me out this time.

Is there anything else I can do? I know this question has been asked before, but I’d really like to know.

how do you train a dog to leave my parrot alone?

i haven’t introduced it to my parrot but if it does try to attack it, how can i train it to leave it? the parrot’s cage can easily be knocked over by the dog. i don’t want to get rid of my parrot or this dog.

My friend wants a dog, how can I help him?

My friend really wants a dog and I know he is responsible enough to take care of the dog. They are financially able to take care of medical bills, food, and the other supplies. The only problem is, his dad had a bad experience with his dog in the past, and now he is still mourning over it. This is keeping my friend from getting a dog. Does anyone have any suggestions to help my friend’s dad get over the experience and get a dog??? Any help is appreciated.

question about snakes?

i really want a pet snake. i am 16. i have enough money saved and things. my parents are 100% against me getting one, but i am determined. this is kinda a 2-part question. first i want to know how to convince my parent to maybe consider the snake. i have told them only requires feeding once a month when older. i would buy everything. their quite. and i would (snake-proof) the house. second part. if i was going to consider buying one what supplies do i need? like ive heard a huge gallon fish tank and some lamps or someting. ive been looking on criags list and have found a sand boa and some other types. so use that as a reference if they differ. thanks a bunch.!

Does anyone really care about the Obama dog thing?

Does anyone really care what kind of dog our president has? I sure don’t. I can’t believe it is making headlines. They should be allowed some privacy. Their choice in a dog is not really important.

I know I’m not all the way prepared, and I just thought about this, but, I know what I need. I just wonder how many that are in Y-Q&A – Pets – Dogs now are prepared and if you know what all you might need.

And, if those that are prepared might share with others what a good preparation plan and supplies would be in their opinion?

I know some things I need to do or already do or have include the following. If any have any other input, please share.

1. Vet’s PH# posted in Fridge and pre-programed in phone.

2. A Back-up Vet’s Phone Number and alternative Clinic.

3.. A First Aid Kit for Dogs or Humans with plenty of like supplies. Includes items for wounds, dressing, scissors, tweezers, items for stings, and bites. Salves, and other topical treatments.

4. Activated Charcoal and other Poison Treatments that are ingested.

5. Toll Free Number to the APSCA National Pet Poison Hotline: 888-426-4435 -or- Angell Poison Control Hotline for Pets: 877- 2ANGELL

6. Contacts to Family, Friends or Kennel in case of Personal Emergency to have Dogs/Pets watched.

7. A Bloat or Stomach Torsion Emergency Kit for Big Chested Breeds.

A few of these things I need or need to do. Any other ideas to add to such a list are welcome and appreciated.
