What should I feed my fish and how much?

I have a 40 gallon tank and the inhabitants are:

1 timid 3′ Black Ghost Knife Fish (it is pretty hard to feed him)
6 small-medium clown loaches
5 neon tetras
4 mollies (these guys are pigs)
2 danios
1 albino cory
1 pleco

I also have 4 snails and 7 ghost shrimp in the tank, possibly less ghost shrimp if they got eaten.

I’m thinking about changing my feeding reigment to once a day and giving 3-4 pinches of flakes, 1 small pinch of freeze-dried brine shrimp, 1 small pinch of dried krill, and 2 cubes of blood worms.

I am completely open to any and all suggestions, and can make a trip to Pet Co. later to pick up any additional supplies.

Thank you!
Uhh… I hardly have 25 inches in my tank.

If any of my fish grow larger I will consider upgrading, but thanks for the advice, everyone.

How can we encourage companies to recycle?

There are retail companies that "throw" away products because they may become discontinued.

They throw them away so the company can get a tax break. Many of these products are in good working condition, possibly brand new.

This is not the companies fault, as it is a government requirement to destroy the products rather than donating them to charity.

One example, pet stores get rid of "fish tank equipment" for "current models". This equipment is still valuable. If given to the proper organizations, could teach the next generation how to "raise fish" or develop a new hobby, learn a new skill.

How can we encourage a change, and possibly to encourage the companies to inspire government – it would be a win-win philosophy. The company would reduce their waste that would normally go to a landfill. The children or organizations or communities that receive donations, would benefit. And the government could still supply the companies with the tax relief.

Suggestions and comments appreciated.

can someone name some supplies/needs for a dog?

(particularly a lab) its for homework, thanks!

Just won a little common goldfish from the fair, but it’s late at night and all the pet supply stores are closed. What steps can I do to keep him alive over night?

I have him in a Tupperware, and I added some distilled water to the water he was in. I figure that have less stuff in it then regular water.

Also, I have some triops food, can I feed him a little?

And if anyone knows of a good little affordable first fish pet tank let me know.
Also, looking at a tank like this:

http://www.petsmart.com/product/index.jsp?productId=2752291&ab=fish_fc1d

I know it’s been said that they need a lot of room, but it sounds to be it’s because they just are really dirty. Would it be bad to have a fish in a tank like this and just clean the water more frequently?

Also, he’s about an inch. Dunno if that means anything

What do you need to take care of a Dog?

If you have a baby dog maybe less then a year old or maybe less then 2 years what would you need to take care of it including cage and stuff I need to know every single thing you need and If possible how much it would cost. Thanks!

The majority of us are responsible fishkeepers. I made some mistakes with my first tank, but I learned from that and help out people who make similar mistakes. It happens. But while there is much fun in the hobby, there are so many BAD things going on. Remember people, living, breathing, feeling organisms are involved here!

I post this rant after going to school and seeing two goldfish put in one of THESE – http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/TURTLE-BOWL-AQUARIUM-LAGOON-BASKING-POOL-TURTLES-FISH_W0QQitemZ290349865546QQcmdZViewItemQQptZUK_Pet_Supplies_Fish?hash=item439a335a4a&_trksid=p3286.c0.m14

These fish were half way out of the water. You may say ‘they are just a fish’ but what if YOU were that fish? Suffocating in your own waste, barely able to move or breathe. Let me continue.

Bowls – You CAN keep something living in a bowl…, that is bacteria and algae. Nothing else is suitable. Just because a fish is hardy doesn’t mean it can live its full life in an unstimulated, unfiltered death trap. Goldfish are high- waste producing fish. Fancies require 20gal+ with extra filtration, Commons, 55gal+ with extra filtration. They can grow very large and live 20+ years in proper conditions. A bowl will not allow for that. The myth that a fish will ‘grow to the size of its tank/bowl’ is sick. That means, its growth will be STUNTED. Next are Bettas. They need 3, preferably 5gal+ to thrive. They NEED A HEATER. They are TROPICAL FISH from a TROPICAL CLIMATE.

Next is fish store advice. When I first started fishkeeping, I went to the fish store for advice. Big mistake. They sent me home with a bunch of fish, telling me to pour the water from the bag into the tank. They said nothing about cycling. Lets just say I ended up with a lot of dead fish, fast. Maybe the guy honestly didn’t know what he was talking about. Or maybe he just wanted to make a pretty penny, and have me come back to replace the dead fish and make more moolah. I have learned since.

I’ll stop there. I love my fish and I hate to see the abuse that some people do to these wonderful pets. Give me your opinions.

I have 2 freshwater aquariums, one over a year old and and one set-up since 06. Every now and then, I find this white crust on the dry exterior of the creses of my tanks, I believe it’s just salt (I add a bit of salt to my water). Why does it show up outside (I know something about evaporation)? I’m really not concerned about it just curious?
